How to Enter GRCC's Dental Programs

Individuals interested in the dental assisting program can typically start the fall following placement on the waiting list. However, with increasing popularity of the program and growing wait list we highly recommend that applicants complete the minimal entrance requirements as soon as possible.

The dental hygiene program historically has about a two-year wait from the time the applicant completes the minimal program requirements which include the four science courses, to the time they actually begin dental hygiene courses (the second year). As mentioned, while students are "waiting" to enter the dental hygiene program, we strongly encourage them to take as many of the other non-dental courses needed for graduation as possible. Students taking just dental hygiene courses carry 12 to 18 credit hours of coursework a semester!

To get into either program, the process is the same:

  • Fill out an application online at www.grcc.edu through the Admissions Office. On the application, indicate either dental assisting or dental hygiene as your program of interest, and enter one of the following as the "Academic Plan Code:"

    - 322 for certificate in dental assisting
    - 322 for associate degree in dental assisting
    - 324 for the dental hygiene program

    • If you are already a GRCC student, just go to the Health Admissions Office 502 College Park Plaza and change your academic plan code.

    • Respond to all communications from Health Admissions Office, and complete all requirements in a timely manner.

    • When contacted, respond immediately and schedule an appointment with the program director for an educational development plan (EDP) to discuss the procedures and requirements for beginning the actual program.
