Message from the Program Director / How to Enter GRCC's Dental Programs / Dental How to Enter GRCC's Dental Programs Individuals interested in the dental assisting program can typically start the fall following placement on the waiting list. However, with increasing popularity of the program and growing wait list we highly recommend that applicants complete the minimal entrance requirements as soon as possible. The dental hygiene program historically has about a two-year wait from the time the applicant completes the minimal program requirements which include the four science courses, to the time they actually begin dental hygiene courses (the second year). As mentioned, while students are "waiting" to enter the dental hygiene program, we strongly encourage them to take as many of the other non-dental courses needed for graduation as possible. Students taking just dental hygiene courses carry 12 to 18 credit hours of coursework a semester! To get into either program, the process is the same:
